Strengthen Your Skills for Working with Families Impacted by Domestic Violence
This in-depth training is designed for professionals who work with families involved in parenting facilitation, custody evaluation, and other family-law-related services where domestic violence may be a concern. Participants will explore the fundamental principles necessary to develop effective, clinically appropriate interventions while maintaining a primary focus on safety.
The seminar provides 2.5 hours of continuing education instruction applicable to required training for parenting facilitators/coordinators and custody evaluators, with content aligned with relevant Texas Family Code and BHEC requirements.
Led by experienced presenters Dr. Tammi Axelson and Dr. Aaron Robb, the training moves beyond identifying domestic violence to address the practical question professionals face in the field: How do you intervene effectively when family violence is part of the family system?
Participants will gain practical strategies for structuring interventions, developing targeted skills, using directive approaches when appropriate, and adapting supportive, solution-focused interventions to the unique needs and safety considerations of families impacted by domestic violence. The course also addresses considerations for supporting children who have experienced or been exposed to domestic violence.
Whether conducting a custody evaluation, providing parenting facilitation services, or intervening with families navigating complex family dynamics, this training provides professionals with practical concepts and strategies they can incorporate into their professional practice.
