Professionals in the mental health field commonly deal with children and families in crisis. With over half of all marriages in the United States ending in divorce, mental health professionals frequently find themselves involved in these complex family structures. Well meaning professionals can be negatively impacted by this involvement if they are unaware of the specialized issues that come with the dynamics of these families and the potential Court interaction. Worse yet, this involvement can not only have long term damaging effects on your professional credibility, but as well on these children and their families. Unfortunately, many children growing up between two homes and their family systems are described as "Shattered," "Broken," or "Divorced" when research actually supports some children fare better post-separation while others face continuing problems from their parents' continuing conflict.
This 5 hour seminar presented by Bradley S. Craig, LMSW-IPR, CFLE author of Between Two Homes: A Coparenting Handbook and Between Two Homes: A Coparenting Workbook offers participants the opportunity to familiarize themselves with the higher standard of practice involved in working with these families while learning about current research and knowledge regarding two homes issues. Options will also be presented on resources available to these families.
Understand how maintaining an informed, up to date, and ethical practice can prevent the common mistakes seen regularly in work with these family structures and in the Family Courts.
Learning Objectives:
The ability to complete it on my own time. Easy to access and navigate - practical information for all therapists working with families and children - links to resources
Other therapists would benefit from this practical information. It will give them insight to working with high conflict families and provide useful information regarding their role with families in transition. - Sharon Lopez, LPC.
I would recommend this course to any professional working with divorce, high-conflict families (divorced or not), or potential court involvement and anyone working with children.
thank you.
I have already recommended my colleagues to take the course. I think it's helpful.
Do I recommend others take this? Yes I would ---it should be a required course in graduate schools
This course has provided me with with a clearer understanding of the court process and potential challenges I face as a therapist. I have a lot more to learn if i choose to continue working with these families.
Convenient, and accessible and I'm glad it's online instead of onsite. There is a narrator/speaker to teacher instead of reading on our own. Helpful information.
The video interviews are helpful.
